Shell demonstrates its commitment to the development of new, sustainable fuels by mixing BTL (Biomass two Liquids) in the Shell V-Power Diesel, which is used in Audi's legendary cars of the Year edition of Le Mans.

Diesel cars from AUDI surprised everyone with their victories at Le Mans in 2006 and 2007, and now it is the first time that a second-generation biofuels are used in the course. The introduction of biodiesel stresses once again run important role in the development and testing of new technologies and fuels. In addition to BTL include Shell V-Power Diesel also the synthetic fuel GTL (Gas Liquids Thursday), a fuel Shell produces based on natural gas. The fuel gives a very clean and efficient combustion.
BTL is a synthetic diesel fuel with high performance, which is made from biomass, which do not come from food. Current biomass derived from waste products from the German forest industry. BTL offers a CO2 emission reductions of up to 90% compared with conventional diesel. |

Part of the new biofuel will be blended into the new Shell V-Power Diesel with GTL-recognized components already in production at commercial level and has been used in Shell V-Power Diesel race fuel since 2006.
Through cooperation with the German company Choren Industries GmbH, Shell is working to develop BTL. Choren plant produces today the BTL, which is mixed in Shell V-Power Diesel race fuel, which is used at Le Mans. Choren first commercial production facility in Freiberg, Germany, begins commercial production of fuel within 12 months.
Richard Karlstetten, Shell Global Technology Manager, Racing Fuels, says:
"It is still early in BTLs commercial life, but Shell sees motorsport as a technical test basis, and we are delighted to demonstrate Shell V-Power Diesel performance with both GTL and BTL."
Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Sport, commenting on:
"Certainty that we have the right fuel to give the car sufficient motive for a long time, is a key factor in relation to the Audi R10 TDI's success at Le Mans. Shell V-Power Diesel is essential for the Audi Sports success at Le Mans. " |

Daniel Poissenot, Sports vice president of the Automobile Club l'Ouest (ACO), Le Mans' senior instance, says:
"This is the first time that a second-generation biofuels will be used for Le Mans, which highlights the role that race series played in testing new technologies."
Shell V-Power Diesel is a high-performance diesel fuel designed to help modern diesel engines to deliver more power for a long time. Shell's researchers used the same fuel technology behind Shell V-Power Diesel, to create the new fuel for Le Mans. Shell V-Power Diesel is available at more than 7,000 service stations in Europe.
